Mr and Ms SEG

On the 29th of October 2009, Cyriva Club held the Mr and Ms SEG 2009. Each year, Cyriva Club would give all School of Engineering students a chance to take part in the annual Mr and Ms SEG. This year, the event was held in the student forum at W1.

The nomination for the Mr and Ms SEG started in early Sep 09; the nominees were from year 1 to year 3 Engineering students. Interview of the nominees were conducted soon after. A total of 7 finalists were short listed from the interview session.

A dry run for the contestants was conducted a few days before the event

On the actual day, the 7 finalists had their last dry run before the start of the event. They had to familiarise themselves with the stage layout and the song / dance they intended to show case during the contest. Everyone was feeling both anxious and excited.

Not forgetting that in any competition, there would always be judges to judge the contestants. The judging criteria include Talent, Presentable, Charisma and last but not least Overall Judgment. As for this event, the judges in this competition consisted of our club advisor and mentors.

The time 1230 finally arrived; it marked the start of Mr and Ms SEG 2009 contest. Our emcees started the whole event with a blast, introducing our 7 finalists to the audience. A majority of the audience was made up of the supporters for the finalists. Audience cheered for the finalists that they supported. The applause and cheer brought the event to the new high!



Our very first contestant Derek showcased his powerful vocals with a touching song, which won many hearts from the audience. Next, we had Afiqah, show casing her vocal with a song that the audience were familiar with. After immersing in two songs, the audience were treated to a cool and funky catwalk by Faizal and Joshua. Next, Fiona mesmerised the audience with her hip dance. Our last male finalist, Paul, won votes from the audience with a rock song. Lastly, our final finalist, Tiffany, show cased her talents by singing a lovely song. Audience at the forum were swaying to the rhythm of the song.

So, how did we determine our winners?? Simple - the most votes from the judges, sms and public voting system would win. Audience could vote using the sms and public voting system. Supporters of the finalist supported their friends were busy texting, hoping to increase the sms votes.

The whole event including the sms voting system ended at 1330 after the calculation of the votes, the result was finally out! We shall here present our winners: Derek as Mr SEG 2009 and Tiffany as Ms SEG 2009. Congratulations to the winners! We would also like express our gratitude to all participants including the finalists. . Once again, congratulation to Derek and Tiffany.
